Educators, like all learners, learn in different ways and at different rates. This is your opportunity to design timely professional learning that would meets YOUR needs including any type of learning experience in any format that works for YOU! .
In the fall of 2012, the district Professional Development Committee (PDC), using the Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning (2011), studied the prerequisites for professional learning which includes the idea that educators, like all learners, learn in different ways and at different rates. Based on this idea, the PDC began to explore ways to design timely professional learning that would meet the needs of all learners including many different types of learning experiences in many different formats.
The committee made the decision to include a professional development flex day in the district calendar providing teachers the opportunity to personalize their own learning, participate in flexible professional learning, and differentiate the professional development based on needs, learning styles, and schedules. The tradition has continued into the 2016-2017 school year.
What is the district’s goal of flex day?
The district’s goal is to design timely professional learning that would meet the needs of all learners including many different types of learning experiences in many different formats. To meet this need, the Professional Development Committee developed a learning environment where teachers could make professional learning decisions based on their needs and have avenues available to showcase their new learning.
