Making Learning Visible: "Boys Adrift: The Five Factors Driving the Growing Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men"
I read the book, “Boys Adrift: The Five Factors Driving the Growing Epidemic of Unmotivated Boys and Underachieving Young Men” by Dr. Leonard Sax. Being a counselor I work with a lot of students who are struggling in some capacity. Considering Tier 2 supports we have, the majority of the students I work with are boys. I wanted to research more about what factors are affecting boys and what new approaches may be useful. One of the chapters of “Boys Adrift”, focusing on the effects of violent video games on boys. The amount of anti-social aggression boys are viewing can impact their ability to succeed at school and interact with others. I put together a Google Slide that I used as my fourth and fifth grade counselor lesson. I thought it would be a good learning opportunity to share with kids the effects of violent video games and what impact it can have.
