Over the summer, we attended Pathways to Reading training. We had both had an introduction to Pathways and have "taught" it, but didn't really understand the impact of having the entire training. We were amazed! The importance of using the ABC chart and allowing students to apply 1:1 correspondence was an eye opener and the strategies that we took away really help our students make connections to learning letters and their sounds. Some of our favorite aspects were being able to connect vocabulary with making charts of words that use those letters. Using a sound wall in the classroom is a great visual tool which connects and anchors their learning. In large groups, we find that our students are really enjoying "Martian Talk", "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Clap", and "Bubblegum Stretch" In small group settings, our students enjoy "ABC point and sing", and "Freeze and Match".
We are very excited to see that these strategies will show reading growth in all our students!!!
