I chose to attend the Missouri Art Education Association's Annual Fall Conference in Knob Noster, MO. My goal was to collect ideas already in place with other art educators as far as creating independent yet functional work spaces, differentiation of options for those who finish early with daily objectives, as well as ongoing group artworks to reinforce concepts while adding the teamwork element. Several workshops were instrumental in building these changes within my classroom. Workshops attended specific to my goals included “Differentiation for Gifted High Ability Students,” “Choice Your Way”, “Engaging Learners through Signage, Posters and Menus,” and “Being in Place: A Creative Problem Solving Experience.” The Drag and Brag also offered many successful lesson plans and ideas for independent problem solving opportunities, and the numerous conversations with educators from all over the state to share and bounce ideas off of were just as supportive as the classes themselves. I believe attending this conference had much to do with the success of the changes implemented this year in K-5 Art at Lewis Elementary and I look forward to attending again in the future.
