I was gravitated towards the book “Talk Like Ted” by Carmine Gallo due to my fascination with any and all Ted Talks. Even I don’t have any interest in the topic discussed in the talk, I am usually sucked in watching the engaging delivery of the presentator. This book describes 9 public speaking secrets that the author found that makes these talks so engaging. Even though I’m not standing in front of an audience to deliver a speech, there are many applicable takeaways for use in the classroom in delivering content.
The book divides the 9 secrets in to 3 categories: Emotion, Novel, and Memorable with each category have 3 subcategories. The three under the emotion category are all focused on capturing the audiences heart through your talk. I’m going to outline those 9 secrets and the main takeaways from them and their application to the classroom.
